RixFan16 Cardinals Downgrade Hurricanes 17-12 (1st Quarter) 0 Sep 15 2008, 8:12 PM EDT by RixFan16

It was billed as a match-up of hated rivals; the Cardinals and the Hurricanes. The fans in attendance were expecting a rough and rowdy game, and they didn’t leave disappointed. With a final score of 17-12, the Cardinals knew they had given it their all and felt a sense of satisfaction as they left the stadium. It was definitely a defensive battle as Pierre Penn had three interceptions and the Cards threw down many a tackle. The scores came from home run plays and the win was solidified with kicker Matt Maxey, who booted a first quarter field goal and nailed both extra point attempts. The first quarter opened up with a nice return from the Hurricanes. Quarterback #10 connected with receiver #4 for a long pass on the opening drive, but it was all for not as a fumble gave the ball to the Cardinals. They were helped out with a penalty that gave them a first down, and were helped even more by a tough run up the middle from running back #31. The drive came to a sudden halt though as the Cards turned over the ball with an interception. So what would the Hurricanes do with the ball, they would throw an interception themselves giving possession back to the Cardinals. And in a weird turn of events, the ball was given right back to the Canes with a Cardinal fumble. With all the turnovers done for a bit, the Hurricanes tried to put a nice drive together but came up short as they went three and out. It was during this drive that we saw a HUGE hit from #59. So on fourth down, the Canes took the conservative route and decided to punt. Too bad for them that the Cards blocked it and recovered it in the red zone. On this possession, we saw a couple of nice runs by running backs #37 and #31, but they came up short as fourth down came fast. No fear though, as our kicker destroyed the ball over the goal posts and gave the Cardinals a 3-0 advantage. Before the final few seconds ticked off, the Cards determined the Canes opening field position with a touchback to end the first quarter.

RixFan16 Cardinals Downgrade Hurricanes 17-12 (2nd Quarter) 0 Sep 15 2008, 8:12 PM EDT by RixFan16

The second quarter opened much like the first as the Hurricanes started off with the ball. QB #10 found WR #3 as they attained a first down during what would turn out to be a hard-hitting drive. But it just wasn’t enough as the Canes were forced to punt again. The Cards would get a nice return from #12 and start off another drive. QB #9 hooked up with WR #14 for a first down, but we wouldn’t see much more as fourth down came way too soon. The punter/kicker killed the punt for a touchback and gave the Canes the ball back on the twenty. In one of the craziest plays I have ever seen, the Canes QB scrambled, threw a complete pass to a receiver who had the ball knocker out of his hands but was caught by another player on the team who carried it for a nice gain. Another nice run for a first would extend the drive, but only for a little as the Canes ended up punting once again. The Cardinals offense would see the field, but only for a couple of plays tough. QB #9 completed a nice pass to WR #4, but a punt soon followed after the three and out. It would be a mirror possession from the Canes as they could deliver nothing more than a three and out and punt themselves. So with the ball back, the Cards went out but turned the ball over again with a fumble. The Canes took advantage of this, as we saw a nice QB run from #10 and a mid-range pass from QB #15 to WR #21 for a Touchdown. The extra point would be no good, so the score would now read 6-3 in favor of the Hurricanes. And just like the first quarter, the second ended with a touchback.

RixFan16 Cardinals Downgrade Hurricanes 17-12 (3rd Quarter) 0 Sep 15 2008, 8:12 PM EDT by RixFan16

The third quarter would be a very short one as we saw only three total drives from the teams. This would be mostly due to a very long opening drive from the away team Hurricanes. They got the ball back to start off on the twenty after yet another touchback from the dominating Cardinal kicker. QB #15 had a long scramble for the first and then completed a nice pass for another first. It would come up forth down for the Canes, but in a bold attempt, they went for it and succeeded. QB #10 connected with WR #82 for the fourth down conversion. Their QB would run for another nice gain, but after all the nice plays and big gains, it ended abruptly with a fumble that was recovered by the Cards D. The home team tried to put together a drive to get back the lead, but unfortunately went three and out and punted it back to the canes. It looked good for the Canes as they returned the punt for a Touchdown, but in a wild twist, it was called back due to an unnecessary penalty. That might have been the turning pint of the game, as the Cards got the ball back once again, thanks to an interception by #21 who actually fumbled it back to another Cardinal #12. And that would be all we saw in the third as the score remained 6-3 with the Canes leading.
