The Altavista Colonels lost to Appomattox on a rainy, Homecoming night in Appomattox. Poor passing and failure to execute plays led to the Colonels demise as Appomattox managed to put more points on the board than the Colonels. From the beginning of the game, it appeared the Colonels would take control and continue with their aggressive defense and explosive offense. Appomattox put the first points on the board and it just seemed the Colonels couldn't manage to prevail in any of their offensive maneuvers. Penalties caused the Colonels to lose yardage after making impressive runs. A big run by Jamison Robinson was called back after a holding penalty on the Colonels. It still appears that the Colonel's are not able to keep up with their opponents in momentum. The players appear tired and the sideline is once again nothing but a mere spectator. Why the coach does not utilize the sidelines more is a question that most of the fans in the stands question on a weekly basis. Maybe the Colonels would be more successful if rotations were used and players were not forced to play both offense and defense. The Colonels play at home next Friday in their homecoming game against Dan River. Dan River handed the Colonels an unexpected loss last year so it will be interesting to see how they approach the Colonels this year.It is also Senior Night at Altavista so the seniors playing in the fall sports will be recognized. Come out early to the game to see these activities. Seniors will be recognized prior to the game. We need to stand behind our Colonels and show them our support! My prediction is the Colonels will come out with a renewed offensive and defensive strategy as they strive to improve their record. Let's go Colonels!

Hello, I am trying to get an idea of just what it going on there in Altavista. I have been a long time fan of the athletics at that school and many years ago the football program was very productive. I have went to the last two home games and it just seems that nobody on the field is playing except for a couple players. I was really annoyed that our offense is also playing as defense. Last night, it looked like there were only 5 different offensive plays that the coach ran. What is going on? Does anybody have an answer to the offenseive line and what is going on? I was talking to other fans at the game last night and they were all asking why didnt the coach play his sideline? Does anybody know that? The players on the field look tired and worn out. I came from out of town to watch my alma mater and I am not impressed. Anybody got any ideas for me? Thank you from Missouri!

Altavista dropped its 2 game winning streak last night against Cumberland. What looked like an even match up in the first quarter, quickly turned in to a battle between two teams with undefeated records. A TD by Cumberland was called back secondary to a penalty flag early in the game and then Altavista put 3 points up after a Blake Todd field goal. Cumberland then took control of the game, both on offense and defense. Once again, the Colonel sidelines had a night off as the coach did very little substitutions. Players appeared tired and worn out and it was clear they just couldnt give their best effort under such circumstances. Altavista managed to get a TD from Lee Miller on a pass from QB Johnnie Wimbush. They were unable to capitalize on a 2 point conversion. With it appearing that the Colonels are using very limited offensive plays this year, it is of no wonder what they will be up against. They have tough opponents in the next few weeks and we all wish them well. Hopefully we will see the sidelines getting some play time and better effort on the part of the players. Cumberland's players were well conditioned and were quick. They made quick offensive plays and had many attempts at their passing game. They were impressive with their variety of plays. Everyone come out next week to Randolph Henry and watch the Colonels on the road. Go Colonels! Good luck to the team!
