I believe heritage could have won this game if it wasn't for the two big returns and a lot a penalty's. Penalty's killed this weeks game for the Heritage pioneers.

BooyahCanada E.C. Glass vs. Heritage 0 Sep 6 2008, 3:45 AM EDT by BooyahCanada

Miscues by Heritage quarterback James Womack, and some outstanding special teams play for E.C. Glass led to a 43-36 overtime Hilltoppers win Friday night, in the Battle of the 'burg.

On a night that featured esteemed alumnus, and current astronaut Leland Melvin, who had his jersey number retired during halftime, the near capacity crowd got their money's worth, including a late-game appearance by Tropical Storm Hanna.

Glass carried momentum into the half, and looked to be on pace to take an easy victory from the Pioneers, thanks in part to some crafty play calling by coach Richard Trent. A flea flicker pass to quarterback Joey Flores capped a scoring drive that saw a fake punt executed by the blue and white just a few plays earlier.

With just over a minute to play, the Pioneers pulled within two, and tied things up on James Carter's second successful two-point conversion.

Glass would score on their first overtime possession, and looked to hold the goal line as a torrential downpour began to douse the field. After a false start to give Heritage a first-and-fifteen, James Womack bobbled the first snap. On the very next play from scrimmage, Womack would again lose control of the ball, and lose possession to fall by an overtime score of 43-36.
